Nomination Rules Post - Nominations Open!
Nominations are open!
Nomination categories have changed. Please review the new fandom categories even if you've nominated for this exchange before.
• Every person may nominate up to 20 ships in up to 10 fandoms.
• Ships must have fewer than 250 works that are over 1000 words in English on AO3.
Nomination Guidelines
To nominate:
• Read the Nomination Guidelines (this post!) and make sure you understand them — don't be afraid to ask me or any of the other co-mods questions if you don't!
• Go to the tagset and make sure you're logged in to your AO3 account.
• Click the nominate button and fill in the nomination page with tags you want to request.
• Only nominate in the fandom categories listed in the Fandom Nomination Guidelines section below. We are not using Star Wars - All Media Types as a fandom. You can copy and paste from the fandoms list here.
• When the mods have time, we approve them... assuming you filled it out correctly and we understand your nomination.
• If there's any confusion, there will be a nominations clarification post on this Dreamwidth community. We can't see who's nominated what so we can't just ask you directly. You just have to comment on the post or email me to clear things up!
• Lingering incorrect nominations may be rejected, but I will always be willing to add the correct versions in for you if you provide correctly formatted tags to me within the nomination period.
Fandoms to use
You can nominate your pairing under any of the listed fandom categories below. THIS HAS CHANGED FROM LAST YEAR.
• Please use the fandoms exactly as they appear below - copy & paste is your friend!
• Mods will reject any other fandoms or fandom categories.
• All characters need to exist in the fandom category they're nominated under.
• Ships between a Star Wars character and the reader, between a Star Wars character and an original character, or between two or more original characters, should be nominated under the fandom category that corresponds to world you want to see them in, e.g. Leia Organa (Legends)/Original Female Senator would be nominated under 'Legends EU'.
The following fandom categories will already be in the tag set. Reminder - use them exactly as they appear here. Please use (Any) in tags if you don't have a preference for a specific Legends version, or a specific property. For example, Mara Jade/Jaina Solo (Any), or Female Revan/Bastila Shan (KOTOR).
• Other Star Wars Universes: Is for ships between characters who exist in Star Wars properties that are not clearly Canon or Legends. Examples of these sorts of properties would be the Visions TV show, Star Wars Legos, and the Galactic Starcruiser hotel.
• Any Star Wars Crossovers: Is for any ships between characters who exist in different fandom categories, or for ships where you generally don't care which version is used. Use (Any) in the tag after the character or ship if the property is not important to you, or one of the specific property tags found at the end of this document. For example, Leia Organa/Mon Mothma (Any) or Female Revan (KOTOR)/Leia Organa (OT) or Wedge Antilles (Any)/Luke Skywalker (Legends).
• Crossovers (Non-Star Wars): Is for ships between at least one Star Wars character and one or more non-Star Wars characters. Use the relevant fandom abbreviation or (Any) for the Star Wars character. For example, Amilyn Holdo (ST)/Klara (Jordskott).
How to Format Relationship Tags
It's important to format your nominations correctly! You need to know these things:
• AO3's algorithm can only match tags that are exactly the same.
• The tagset will be unhappy with you if you try to submit a tag in one fandom that already exists verbatim in another.
• Sometimes the tagset glitches and the mods have to manually put the tags back with the fandom they belong with, which means we might need to know where your tags are supposed to be.
SO, with that in mind... please follow these nomination guidelines:
• This is a ship exchange, all nominations should be for relationships, and should be nominated with a / between their names [ex: Bix Caleen (Andor)/Maz Kanata (ST)]. Solo characters and platonic relationships nominated with an & between their names will be rejected.
• Each nomination should have either (Any) or a fandom source name in parentheses submitted along with the relationship tag. Specific examples are below. At the end of this post is a list of preferred abbreviated names for specific source materials..
• Relationships in the same fandom source material: If you want to nominate versions of the characters from the same fandom category or fandom source material, these versions need to have their source fandom after them in parentheses. This should either be (Any) for the fandom categories as listed above, or a specific fandom within a larger category. For example, in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, we'd have: Rey/Rose Tico (ST). In Star Wars Disney Canon you might nominate: Hera Syndulla/Ahsoka Tano (Any) if you were okay with any Disney Canon version, and Hera Syndulla/Ahsoka Tano (Rebels) if wanted the specific versions that show up in Rebels.
• Relationships across different fandom source material: If you want to nominate versions of the characters from different fandom source materials, these characters need to have their source fandom after each of them in parenthesis. You can nominate different fandom sources within the larger categories of Legends, Disney Canon, or Other Star Wars Universes, as long as both properties belong to that category. (The OT and PT series can be considered a part of either Legends or Disney Canon if you wish). Pairings across larger fandom categories should go in the Any Star Wars Crossovers category. For example, in the Any SW Crossovers section we might have: Mon Mothma (Legends)/Leia Organa (ST).
Help! This is very confusing, can I have a more specific example?
• Of course! Lets explore the different ways you might want to nominate Mon Mothma/Jyn Erso.
• If you want the versions of both characters specifically as they appear in Rogue One, in the Star Wars Disney Canon fandom category, you would nominate Mon Mothma/Jyn Erso (RO).
• If you're okay with any Disney Canon version of Mon, but you want the version of Jyn from Rogue One, in the Star Wars Disney Canon fandom category, you would nominate Mon Mothma (Any)/Jyn Erso (RO).
• But wait! What if you like Legends Mon specifically, but think it would be neat if that Mon met any version of Jyn Erso? In that case in the Any Star Wars Crossovers fandom category, you would nominate Mon Mothma (Legends)/Jyn Erso (Any).
• "I don't care!" you exclaim. "I like any version of either character, I want my author to write whatever they want." We can do that! In the Any Star Wars Crossovers fandom category, you would nominate Mon Mothma/Jyn Erso (Any).
• "What if I just stick the Mon Mothma (Legends)/Jyn Erso (Any) tag in Legends EU?" you ask. Well, since Jyn Erso doesn't show up in legends, that wouldn't be right. The tag would be rejected, and likely the tagmods would manually move the ship to Any Star Wars Crossovers.
Other Relationship Formatting Guidelines:
• Nominations for relationships that include clone troopers should not include their numerical designation. If two clones have the same name, disambiguate them, e.g. with 'Fox (501st)'. Any characters with the same name that are not disambiguated will be assumed to be the most often used version of that character in that fandom category.
• You can put as many characters in a relationship tags as the length limit will allow. If you want LOTS of character you may need to use nicknames or leave out last names. Please make sure it's still clear who the characters are. List all characters individually, mods will reject group nominations (Ex: For the Bad Batch, "Hunter/Wrecker/Tech/Echo/Crosshair (TBB)" will be accepted. "The Bad Batch Clones (TBB)" will be rejected.
• You may nominate readerfic relationships (ex: Breha Organa (PT)/Reader), or relationships involving original characters (ex: Jyn Erso/Original Female Rebellion Spy (RO); Original Clone Medic/Original Injured Jedi (TCW)). Original character nominations are an invitation for your author to create an original character, linking to a character in an existing fanwork for either requesting or fulfilling the request is not in the spirit of this exchange.
• Threesomes, moresomes, age gap relationships, and crackships are all allowed. If you don't like something that was nominated, don't offer or request it.
• Details about ship eligibility: Any character with more than one name/identity (Largest impacted characters: Vader|Anakin and Kylo|Ben) will be collapsed for purposes of determining eligibility. This means mods will be judging whether these ships are eligible based on the total number of fics tagged with any version of their name, (for most tags, using the umbrella tag, if more than one tag is regularly used, by handcounting (ex: Vader, Anakin, and Vader|Anakin fics and removing duplicates). This only effects eligibility - in your signup you are still welcome to include only one name in your nomination if you feel that best reflects the gift you would like to create or receive.
