Nominations are open! Every person may nominate up to 20 ships in up to 10 fandoms. Ships must have fewer than 250 works that are over 1000 words in English on AO3.

Ships with Darth Vader and ships with Anakin Skywalker should be nominated separately. Ben Solo will not be considered a separate entity from Kylo Ren for the purpose of this exchange. Therefore, I will be judging whether a Kylo|Ben ship is eligible based on the umbrella of the Ben Solo | Kylo Ren tag - though you are welcome to specify Kylo or Ben in your nomination.

Please use the fandoms exactly as they appear below - copy & paste is your friend! Mods will reject any other fandoms.

It's very helpful to us if you disambiguate your nominations - that is, put the name or abbreviation of the fandom the ship belongs to in parentheses after the character name, even if you think it's obvious. For instance, nominating Amilyn Holdo/Leia Organa (SWST) under Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. This is necessary if you wish to nominate the same ship in multiple fandoms - Mon Mothma/Leia Organa (OT) under Original Trilogy and Mon Mothma/Leia Organa (Legends) under Star Wars: Legends EU, but merely appreciated in all other cases.

• Canon Crossovers: Is for ships between characters who exist in different canon properties. Please specify which fandom each character belongs to in your nomination. For example, Shmi Skywalker (OT)/Rey (ST). It is also used for ships between characters who share multiple subfandoms where you do not care which subfandom/era is given focus. Nominate those ships with an (Any) disambiguation. For example, Padme Amidala/Mon Mothma (Any).

• Canon/Legends Crossovers: Is for ships between one or more canon characters and one or more Legends characters. If one of those characters exists in both, please specify which version you want. For example, Rey/Jaina Solo or Leia Organa (Legends)/Mon Mothma (OT). If you do not care whether you receive the canon or Legends version of a character, specify those characters with an 'Any' disambiguation. For example, Leia Organa (Any)/Rey.

• Canon EU: Is for ships between characters who exist in the current extended universe. For example, Carise Sindian/Varish Vicly (Canon EU).

• Crossovers (Non-Star Wars): Is for ships between at least one Star Wars character and one or more non-Star Wars characters. For example, Amilyn Holdo (ST)/Klara (Jordskott).

• The Mandalorian (TV): Is for ships between characters in The Mandalorian.

• Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016): Is for ships between characters in Rogue One.

• Ships With Original Star Wars Characters: Is for ships either between a pre-existing Star Wars character and an original Star Wars character (for instance, Leia Organa/Original Female Senator) or between two or more original Star Wars characters (for instance, Original Female X-Wing Pilot/Original Female X-Wing Pilot).

• Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018): Is for ships between characters in Solo

• Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic (Video Games): Is for ships between characters in KOTOR I & II. If nominating a player character, you may provide the character's gender, for instance, Female Jedi Exile/Kreia.

• Star Wars Legends: The Old Republic (Video Game): Is for ships between characters in SWTOR. If nominating a player character, you may provide gender and class, for instance, Female Sith Inquisitor/Darth Zash (SWTOR) or Lana Beniko/Nonbinary Jedi Consular. Advanced classes, races, and light/dark side alignment belong in your optional details.

• Star Wars Original Trilogy: Is for ships between characters in the Original Trilogy.

A question about the crossover subfandoms: what about ships that share multiple subfandoms where one of those subfandoms is Legends? For example, I usually request Wedge Antilles/Luke Skywalker with prompts in the OT, ST, and Legends timelines -- does this still fit in Canon Crossovers with an "Any" disambig, or because I'm specifically interested in the Legends version, should I be looking at Canon/Legends Crossovers?

You can nominate it in all three subfandoms, with appropriate disambiguations so AO3 doesn't yell at you (Wedge Antilles/Luke Skywalker (OT) under OT, and so on) or in Canon/Legends Crossovers with an "Any" disambig!

What about characters from the comics?

Canon comics like Doctor Aphra go under Canon EU, Legends comics like Star Wars Tales under Star Wars: Legends EU. If you're interested in specific series/runs, you can use the title as the disambig for your ship.

Am I right in thinking that clearly non-canon stuff like the Christmas special and Jeffrey Brown's Jedi Academy and Vader's Little Princess works would fall under Star Wars: Legends EU? I ask because none of it was in the pre-Disney EU (I think, who knows, ARGH) but it's nowhere near canon, either.

Yeah, those would be Star Wars: Legends EU, in the 'pre-Disney non-main-movies'. We tried to find a balance between overloading yous with fandoms and still letting people get specific, and we'll definitely be soliciting feedback on our categories for next year.

Hello! How come Vader and Anakin can be nominated separately but not Kylo Ren and Ben Solo?

I ask as Ben/Kylo is an existing but rare ship. Usually tagged BenLo as people not into it view it as a non-ship, which is a pain for those who do produce work for it. I would have thought it would come under the category of a rare ship for this event?

Hi! This is entirely because of how AO3 has organised their tags. To grab a random example, 'Ahsoka Tano/Darth Vader', 'Anakin Skywalker/Ahsoka Tano', and 'Anakin Skywalker | Darth Vader/Ahsoka Tano' are all three distinct ships, while the 'Ben Solo | Kylo Ren/Luke Skywalker' tag encompasses all fics tagged with that, 'Luke Skywalker/Ben Solo', and 'Kylo Ren/Luke Skywalker'.

That being said, Ben/Kylo absolutely does count as a rare ship - in fact, it's been accepted into the tagset as 'Kylo Ren/Ben Solo (ST)' under the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy fandom. Any other selfcest ships people would like to nominate would also be accepted.

There's 3 ways to tag that, Ben solo | kylo ren is a rag, as is Ben solo, as is kylo ren, hence the question! I am unsure why Vader and anakinbdknt also have a combined tag.

I notice that none of my Legends EU ships have been approved, though all of my other nominations were deemed acceptable. Did I get the formatting wrong for those and do I need to edit them before they can be approved (and if so, to what?) I was able to nominate all of those ships last year without issue, and they're all under 250 fics, so they still should be eligible for this exchange.

They're almost certainly fine! AO3 shows us ~30 ships at a time, prioritising fandoms early in the alphabet, so we probably just haven't seen them yet. If you have concerns about specific ships, you can DM a mod about them, but otherwise, you'll probably see them accepted tonight or tomorrow.
