Discussion Post: What are your favorite Star Wars rare pairs?

Hey, all!

I'm incredibly excited for nominations to start so I can see what some of your favorite rare pairs are! In the mean time, if you'd like to talk about them here, please do so! Whether you're planning on participating or not at any step along the way or not, I'd love to hear about the pairings you care about. Do you have only a few that you love? Or do you love so many that you've lost count (like me)? What do you love about your rare pairs?

My favorite and all time rarepair is doubly cursed because it is Legends and it is fem slash. (It doesn't help that both women are fairly happily married off in canon.)

And that would be Leia Organa (Solo)/Winter Retrac (Celchu) forever and ever. Even before the Prequels gave me Padmé/Sabé (another favorite and nearly as rare, it feels like), I shipped Leia/Winter.

The Force Awakens has given me another doomed pairing for Leia, because I do ship her and Rey in a very weird way and that is the main reason I really DO NOT Want Rey Skywalker. (Even if I feel safer shipping them than the Luke/Rey I see running around.)

I enjoy both Luke/Biggs and Luke/Lando for male slash. And Thrawn/Car'das, which is a major pairing for either character but they don't get written very much. (I ship Thrawn/Pellaeon too, just mutually unrequited in most circumstances.)

Het rare ships? I suppose Luke/Callista falls into that despite being a canon relationship. You just don't see it much.

My favorite rarepairs are rare for a good reason, Luke/Leia and Han/Luke/Leia. Outside of the incest realm, I ship Lando/Han and Lando/Han/Leia. That man seriously doesn't get enough love.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. I love Leia/Winter. I read Scoundrels recently and it had Winter being incredibly worried/sad about Leia because she didn't know if Leia had survived the destruction of Alderaan and it gave me so many feelings about them.

Gotta love all the doomed Leia pairings. T_T (I also find Leia/Rey intriguing not gonna lie).

Obligatory hooray Luke/Lando! And I'm coming around on Luke/Biggs. It's pretty cute. :D

I haven't gotten around to reading any books with Callista in it yet, but I'll probably ship that, too. Somehow I end up shipping everything.

I'm right there with you on the Luke/Leia. And I think about what could have been and how much bigger they could've been and I cry a little bit. I ship it so much.

Lando definitely doesn't get enough love. Here's hoping the young Han Solo movie jump starts some interest, but seriously. That shouldn't be necessary. He's such a great character.

I've been meaning to write Ransolm/Leia since the middle of May. /o\ They're just so great together. And their relationship hits all my buttons.

Not sure if I'll be participating (probably will be concentrating on other exchanges at the same time but might poke in at some point, who knows). Excited to see this going ahead, though!

Rarest/farthest out there would be Lando/Poe. I don't often seek out canon-background stuff like Owen/Beru or Bail/Breha but would like to be recced good canon-compliant stuff that expands on minor characters like them if there is some.

Also by the standards of this exchange something like Finn/Rey is "rare" so sure, if that counts, I'm taking it >.>

Also, you blew my mind with that little tidbit about Finn/Rey. I had to go check for myself to ensure it was accurate. Not that I didn't believe you, but it still seemed impossible. And looking at it now, it still seems impossible.

I'm also not yet sure if I'll pull off participation, and I don't know if anyone else is anywhere near this boat, but I'm a massive Jedi Apprentice fan and most of my rare pairs are in that branch of EU (and also mostly femslash, het and/or master/apprentice ships):

- Obi Wan/Siri
- Qui-Gon/Tahl
- Siri/Cerasi
- Siri/Tahl (though this would be future fic/AU-ish to avoid underageness)

And from elsewhere in the EU:

- Luminara/Barriss
- Obi-Wan/Luminara

(Though I would also go crazy for Padme/Siri.)

That's more than okay! It's fun just having people hanging out and chatting. :D

Also, back in the day, I was a huge Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan shipper and because of the way the fandom was, you pretty much had to read these books to even appreciate the fic, so I spent a summer basically just reading all three hundred thousand of these books lol. And I totally loved all these characters. (I was a pretty serious monoshipper at the time though, so while I loved Siri and Tahl, I know I didn't appreciate them in a shippy capacity, which is terrible because thinking about it, Obi-Wan/Siri and Qui-Gon/Tahl are great ships.)

I haven't read the books in years though and don't remember what stuff happened in which books. Which ones were Tahl and/or Siri-heavy?

Well, if Luke/Han still counts as rare...

I'm all about the OT3 - Luke/Han/Leia. Those of us who ship them are trying to come up with a catchy name although I like RoyalSkySolo or SoloSkycest or KnightPiratePrincess.

Check AO3, there are those of us who are trying to make more fic for them.

I'd love to see some more Lando, too, with anyone!

Has anyone brought a Captain Rex | CT-7567 / Obi-Wan Kenobi ship into this yet? Also Commander Cody | CC-2224 / Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Cody/Rex, Cody/Rex/Obi-Wan? I'm blaming norcumi and flamethrower on ao3 for this mostly, but akathecentimetre has some excellent ot3 fic

And yep. For the sake of this exchange, it is. Whether anyone else agrees is another matter. :D In any case, I can't feel bad letting in a few pairings that sit at the higher end of 500 or fewer completed works of a certain criteria in a fandom where the total output is in the 30,000 range. So feel free to chat about the Skysolo if you're so inclined.

The Luke/Han/Leia pairing is a great one for sure.

And I'm always and forever here for more Lando. Landooooooooo.

I kind of loved Commander Cody/Obi-Wan when I was watching The Clone Wars even though it turns Revenge of the Sith into a tragic mess re: that pairing.

I hadn't considered Cody/Rex/Obi-Wan, but I'm intrigued and am intrigued by the author recs! Thanks so much.

Right now I'm getting into Luke/Lando. I have a soft spot for Finn/Kylo Ren. I always imagined that Kylo was jealous that Finn had resolved his personal dilemma of good vs evil. They have an interesting dynamic.

I also like Poe/Rey.

Also, Finn/Kylo have a super interesting dynamic and I totally feel like Kylo being jealous of Finn resolving the good vs. evil conflict for himself. Such a great extrapolation for that relationship.

One day one of us is gonna have to give in and write Poe/Terex. It's gonna have to happen. It's a travesty that it doesn't already exist.

Oh Gosh. Like I know we're just going by AO3 numbers but there's no actual way Obi-Wan/Anakin is actually rare. (I mean, I love the ship, used to be my #1 OPT, it's just so weird to see anyone call it "rare" lol.)

ETA: although, actually, it looks like Obi/Ani is just over the limit?

Oh! Qui/Tahl used to be my ship <3 But that was so long ago, I don't really remember anything about her characterization anymore, unfortunately.

I don't know if I could write them anymore, but I used to really be into Ferus/Darra and Tru/Darra and Tru/Anakin and kinda-sorta Anakin/Darra...I just had a thing for shipping everyone in Jedi Quest I guess.

Hmm. I mean, I definitely enjoyed it back then as I read most of the books. It was entertaining. But, I was also in my early teens so I'm not sure how I would feel about it now as an adult. I do remember being kinda annoyed at Jude Watson a lot though because I felt like she had areal bias against Anakin and was making Obi-Wan too ~good and pure, which was never how I saw him. But that might not be something that would bother someone else. I guess it's kind of a mixed bag? But I do have some fond memories of the series overall.
